While salt is available in practically unlimited quantities today, it was in short supply in many regions for thousands of years and was therefore an expensive commodity. Trade routes developed. The “white gold” was transported along them. Some of them have gone down in history as “salt routes”, with the oldest leading from Hallstatt to Bohemia, the Adriatic, the Black Sea, the North Sea or France.
The Austrian Youth Choir follows in the footsteps of these ancient salt routes with choral music from the regions through which these historic salt routes passed. The compositions range from medieval songs to the present day.
