People from all over the world travel to the Salzkammergut, enjoying the landscape, the unspoilt nature, the hospitality or the echoes of imperial splendour…
Ilija from Bosnia, Ibadete from Kosovo, Raghda from Syria, Greg from Namibia and Hashmat from Afghanistan have come to Austria from far away, but not on holiday. They now live here and work in jobs that are all on the shortage occupations list. Are they included in the applause for the Upper Austrian holiday paradise?
The five describe the sometimes dramatic circumstances that brought them to the Salzkammergut. They talk about foreignness, work, homesickness, pressure and perseverance and about what it means to actually feel at home in a place.
