Pettenbach
Pettenbach
Pettenbach is a very popular residential community with a high quality of life. Meanwhile, more than 5,400 people have their center of life here. They appreciate the natural environment and the diverse local offerings.
Pettenbach’s central location is particularly noteworthy. Surrounded by three highway connections; or by bus and train, one can reach all important cities or local recreation centers in Upper Austria within a very short time. This is not only of great value for those seeking recreation or employment, but also the business community appreciates Pettenbach’s central location. More than 150 commercial enterprises, including several large international companies, provide work and prosperity. Characteristic for the village, however, is above all the rural structure of the approximately 200 full and part-time farms.
The liveliness of our village is characterized by more than 60 associations. By allowing new things in connection with lived tradition and customs, the feeling of togetherness is strengthened. The many committed and voluntarily active people are an important, supporting pillar of our society. The social life in Pettenbach is also enriched by many sporting activities and cultural event highlights: the Leonhardiritt – one of the largest traditional events in Upper Austria, the Mother’s Day Cabaret, the Benedikti Market – a craft market with over 70 regional and international exhibitors in the beautiful ambience of the village center, the Gstanzl singa, the Christmas market with an extensive program, excellent theater performances, concerts of all musical genres, church days, carnival and firefighter festivals.
Pettenbach is located at the entrance to the Almtal, embedded in a beautiful natural landscape and as such offers many leisure and hiking opportunities. The paths lead through partly untouched nature and are suitable for all age groups. The Alm is a natural jewel – its uniqueness is appreciated by those seeking recreation. Today, however, the river also plays a major role in sustainable energy production. This can be explored at the Kronawettwehr show power station with a nature and hydropower trail.
Austria’s only museum of writing, the Bartlhaus, is located in Pettenbach. It is dedicated to writing in the form of handwriting and printing. Exhibitions show contemporary, Austrian and international calligraphy and bookplates. The printing workshop is a special experience, as are the writing courses that take place in the scriptorium. The local museum, which presents a collection of historical furnishings and utensils from the area, is also housed in the Bartlhaus.
In addition, there are many other places worth seeing in Pettenbach, for example the late Gothic, three- and two-nave parish churches of Pettenbach and Magdalenaberg with beautiful frescoes and Baroque altar furnishings and the pilgrimage church of Heiligenleithen plus Leonhardibründl. The Seisenburg ruin, formerly a mighty Renaissance castle, is an attractive excursion and recreation area thanks to the preservation of some of its foundations – as is the Peace Cross on Oberkaibling and the alpine shore trail from Almspitz to Almsee, which is over 50 km long in total and offers some nice (active) rest areas in Pettenbach.
