Bad Ischl is … To complete this sentence is not so easy. Since Bad Ischl is many things: imperial town, European Cultural Capital 2024, congress, spa and shopping town – and all this in the heart of the Salzkammergut.

Imperial summer resort

Bad Ischl and the summer resort, both simply belong together. Visitors and guests can expect a potpourri of experiences and impressions: The beautiful area invites you to hikes and bike tours in the mountain and lake region of the Salzkammergut. Here guests can follow in the footsteps of Sisi and Lehár. A varied cultural offer and beautiful places and sights invite you to stay, visit and participate.

Culture is the new salt – Cultural Capital 2024

Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut region are “European Capital of Culture 2024”. For the first time in the history of the European Capital of Culture, it will take place in the inner Alpine region.
“This offers Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut the chance for our town/region to become the equivalent of a major city. The already lively cultural scene and high quality of life are to be increased. It’s about mobility and digitalization and, above all, revitalizing existing properties,” says Mayor Ines Schiller. And Bad Ischl is preparing for 2024 with full zeal and commitment.

The emperor’s new gardens – the parks

Bad Ischl is known and loved for its numerous parks and flower gardens.
This is also due to the fact that in 2015, the state horticultural show was held here and a great deal of money was invested in garden maintenance. And it was worth it! Bad Ischl was awarded for its commitment. The town won first prize in the Entente Florale 2016, a European competition to enhance the quality of life and living. And more. Bad Ischl received the best rating ever awarded to a participant. No wonder, then, that people here are so incredibly proud of their attractive parks.
One highlight is the Sisipark. It was completely redesigned as part of the State Garden Show and offers numerous families the opportunity to spend time and play with their children.

Awarded family and child friendly community

Bad Ischl has already been certified several times by Unicef and the Federal Chancellery as a family- and child-friendly community. Due to the large number of different childcare facilities, the compatibility of family and work is to be evaluated again and again. The range of playgrounds has been steadily expanded in recent years. And Bad Ischl has done even more to expand the range of exercise for their small and large population, whether skate park, beach volleyball court, climbing gyms, tennis courts, park pool, the choice is really large. For reading and playing fun, the libraries of the parish, where you can borrow books and games for a small fee.
