The Ausseerland was first mentioned in a document about 900 years ago in connection with salt production, but the history of the region goes back much further. Numerous artifacts, such as the salt deposits formed many millions of years ago, as well as cultural assets kept alive, including the Ausseer traditional costume and folk music, are displayed at the Ausseer Kammerhof Museum, known for its diversity and charm and housed in a 14th-century architectural jewel – a wonderful place to learn about the history and rich folk culture of Ausseerland.Â
The history of Bad Aussee is kept alive in traditions and customs and can be seen by the connoisseur in many a monument, event, spoken and sung word.
Numerous stores and inns in picturesque Bad Aussee invite you to stroll and browse and offer a wide range of products from traditional costumes, handicrafts, fashion, household, interior and delicacies to sports and floristry. In August of each year, the dancers of the Vienna State Opera Ballet Association, together with the Ausseer Bradlmusi and the Great String Orchestra of the BĂĽrgermusikkapelle Bad Aussee, enchant their audience with a brilliant ballet performance.
