The project Hausmusik Roas seeks to take a new look at folk music, encourage passionate music making and give new life to the tradition of music making in the home that has been passed on from generation to generation. The numerous activities and concerts of the project Hausmusik Roas began in 2021 and are intended to continue beyond the Capital of Culture year of 2024:
“Music is one of the most fantastic options for communication – it travels through the body, reaches the senses and makes us sensitive to working with one another as a society. Making music at home was always a custom that did not require any words to understand. It forges connections and creates narratives that nourish a community. Musicians and interested parties come together in the intimacy of a home, listen to music, perhaps play along, exchange, move on to other stations and encourage musical experiences in order to integrate them into the everyday of social togetherness. Music, one could say, is the home of the being – it enriches and opens the mind and soul. It creates joy. The format of the Hausmusik Roas, an idea by Franz Welser-Möst, is an attempt to breathe new life into an old tradition”, says Elizabeth Schweeger.
