Michael Obrist is one of the 5 founding partners of feld72 Architekten in Vienna and a university professor at the Vienna University of Technology. He has been Professor of Housing and Design and Head of the Research Department for Housing and Design at TU Wien since 2018. Visiting professorships: Politecnico Milan, University of Art and Design Linz, Masterclass Public Art at the Salzburg Summer Academy, Architectural Association Visiting School in Slovenia. Together with Sabine Pollak and Lorenzo Romito, he is curating the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2025.

Since the office was founded in 2002, feld72’s work has been at the interface of architecture, applied urbanism and art. The 35-strong team led by partners Anne Catherine Fleith, Michael Obrist, Mario Paintner, Richard Scheich and Peter Zoderer has realised numerous projects of various sizes in a national and international context, ranging from master plans and buildings to urban strategies and large-scale interventions in public spaces.

The work of feld72 has received numerous awards (including several Austrian State Prizes and the Gold Medal of Italian Architecture) and has been presented several times at various biennials (Venice, Shenzhen-Hong Kong, Sao Paulo, Rotterdam) and in museums worldwide.
