More about the contributor

Sheep shearer from Pischelsdorf, Upper Austria.

First contact with sheep on his parents’ farm where there were a few sheep. Like everywhere else, it was difficult to find a shearer many years ago. So he started experimenting himself. Fascinated by the subject, he attended subsequent courses in Austria and Germany and then came to the “real” shearing of sheep.
Learning the technique of ground shearing is relatively simple and only requires practice. Understanding the meaning behind shearing, the harvesting of wool, is more of an art. – Namely, the art of preparing the raw wool during shearing so that it can later be spun into a thread from which garments can be created.
