More about the contributor

Herfried Münkler held the chair of Theory of Politics at the Humboldt University in Berlin from April 1992 to September 2018. He has been a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 1993. His research interests include political theory and the history of ideas, political culture research, the theory and history of war, and risk and security as socio-political categories. In 2009, he received the Leipzig Book Fair Prize for his book “The Germans and Their Myths.” His work “The Thirty Years’ War” attracted great interest in the media and the public. In 2019, he and his wife published the book “Abschied vom Abstieg.” In 2021, the book “Marx, Wagner Nietzsche. World in Upheaval”.

Young adults between the ages of 18 and 30 deal with global issues of the future under the direction of Herfried Münkler (former professor of political science at the Humboldt University in Berlin).

Sometimes the imperial legacy weighs heavily on Bad Ischl, and alternative perspectives are largely ignored – kitsch and clichés dominate, with history being clotted in the shadow of the Habsburg myth. An exhibition in the public space as well as talks and statements by European experts dare to take a differentiated look at the imperial and royal period.
