We recommend using the well-established train connections from Vienna, Graz and Linz to travel comfortably to the European Capital of Culture Salzkammer- gut region as well as the direct bus connection (line 150) from and to the city of Salzburg.

A public mobility service that supports the existing public transport system in the Salzkammergut. Leave your car at home and travel easily to and through the region. With the Salzkammergut Shuttle Service you can reach villages and starting points for hikes that are not accessible by train or bus – so you can travel around the Salzkammergut without any worries.
NEW for 2024!
The service is available in the Traunsee-Almtal, Ausseerland, Dachstein Salzkammergut and Bad Ischl regions. The shuttle service runs daily from 7 am to 10 pm on 25 routes with around 450 stops, every half hour to the most important excursion destinations in the Salzkammergut. Bookings can be made by phone or app.

The car park shuttle service provides a connection between car parks and the event venue / Bad Ischl town centre and will operate from 12:00 to 24:00 on 20 January 2024.
Line 1 has a frequency of around 15 minutes per trip.

Note: Adjustments may be made to the timetable frequency of the car park shuttles and additional departure times may be introduced if necessary. The final timetable will be posted at the relevant shuttle bus stops.

The opening of the Capital of Culture Bad Ischl – Salzkammergut 2024 will take place on 20 and 21 January 2024. To mark the occasion, there will be cultural and artistic events (including concerts) in several squares in the town. There will be an event area in front of the Johann Nestroy School (Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz) and the main event area in the Kurpark. There will also be concerts and exhibitions in the Lehar Theatre, the Trinkhalle, the Sudhaus and the parish hall. Up to 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the official ceremony in the Kurpark, which will be broadcast live on ORF 3.
The traffic concept is based on the “Kaiserbummel”. Affected are: Kreuzplatz, Wirerstraße, Pfarrgasse, Adalbert-Stifter-Kai, Auböckplatz, Sparkassenplatz, Schulgasse, Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Straße and Bahnhofstraße. Wiesingerstraße will be a dead end during this time.
The following bus stops cannot be reached in Bad Ischl on Saturday:
- Götzstraße, Seifensiedergasse, Schröpferplatz, Trinkhalle, Krankenhaus and Reiterndorf Grazerstraße → replacement stop is Bad Ischl Bahnhof
- Sulzbach Grazerstraße → Alternative stop is Sulzbach Feuerwehr
The closure will last from 20 January, 7:00 am to 21 January, 2:00 am:
- During this period, access to the city centre is permitted for residents, delivery services and suppliers with an authorisation card until 12:00.
- Access for authorised vehicles is exclusively via Götzstraße.
- The authorisation card can be applied for from Veronika Thumfart at the Capital of Culture office, which can be contacted on +43 6132 23884 during office hours (Mon-Thu from 9:00 to 17:00 and Fri from 9:00 to 14:00). They are issued on presentation of an ID card.
- The main bridge (Elisabethbrücke) and the Esplanade remain open to traffic.
