While salt is available in practically unlimited quantities today, it was in short supply in many regions for thousands of years and was therefore an expensive commodity. Trade routes developed. The “white gold” was transported along them. Some have gone down in history as “salt routes”, the oldest of which led from Hallstatt to Bohemia, the Adriatic, the Black Sea, the North Sea or France.
The Austrian Youth Choir follows in the footsteps of these old salt roads with choral music from the regions through which these historic salt roads passed. The compositions range from medieval songs to the present day.
