The meaning of the Glöckler-run is to win salvation and blessings of the good spirits and to drive away the evil spirits with the dull sound of the bells and the bright glow of the candles.
In white robes, caps weighing up to 20 kilograms and equally heavy bells, they walk through the village.
The Glöckler-run begins at 4:45 p.m. at the community square in Obertraun. There the Glöckler run their circles and are accompanied by the Obertrauner “Weisenbläsern” (brass band).
Afterwards the Glöckler, divided into three groups, run through the whole village wishing the population a happy new year.
The Glöckler are invited to rest in various guesthouses and private houses and provided with warming tea and a good snacks.
