This website uses the services of MailChimp to send newsletters. The service provide is the Rocket Science Group LLC, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA. MailChimp is a service that can be used, amongst other purposes, to organize and analyze the sending of newsletters. If you provide data for the purpose of receiving the newsletter (e.g. your email address), this will be stored on the servers of MailChimp in the USA. MailChimp has a certification in accordance with the EU-US Privacy Shield. The Privacy Shield is a framework agreement between the European Union (EU) and the USA that should ensure the compliance with European data protection standards in the USA.
With the help of MailChimp, we are able to analyze our newsletter campaign. When you open an email sent with MailChimp, a file contained in the email (a so-called web beacon) connects with the servers of MailChimp in the USA. This makes it possible to determine whether a newsletter message has been opened and which links may have been clicked. In addition, technical information is collected (e.g. time of the request, IP address, browser type and operating system). This information cannot be associated with the respective newsletter recipient. It is used exclusively for the statistical analysis of newsletter campaigns. The results of these analyses can be used in order to better adapt future newsletters to the interests of the recipients.

Google Fonts

We use Google Fonts by the company Google Inc. (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043 USA) on our website.
You do not have to sign in and/or create a password to use Google Fonts. In addition, no cookies will be stored in your browser. The files (CSS, Schriftarten/Fonts) are requested via the Google domains fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. According to Google, the requests for CSS and fonts are completely separated from all other Google services.

Why Google Fonts?

Google Fonts (previously Google Web Fonts) is an interactive inventory of more than 800 fonts that the Google LLC provides for usage free of charge. Many of these fonts are published under the SIL Open Font license, while others have been published using the Apache license. Both of these are free software licenses. As such, we are able to use these freely, without having to pay licensing fees to do so.

Why are we using Google Fonts on our website?

With Google Fonts, we can use fonts on our website without having to upload them onto our own server. Google Fonts is an important component for keeping the quality of our website at a high level.
All Google fonts are automatically optimized for the web and this saves in data volumes and is of great benefit particularly for the use of mobile end devices. When you visit our website, the small file size allows it to be loaded quickly. In addition, Google Fonts are so-called secure web fonts. Different image synthesis systems (rendering) in different browsers, operating systems and mobile end devices can lead to errors. We use Google Fonts so that we can present our entire online service as attractively and uniformly as possible. In accordance with article 6, paragraph 1f, letter F of the GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation), there is a “justified interest” in the processing of personal data. In this case, “justified interest” is understood as legal as well as economic or ideational interests that are recognized by the legal system.

What data is stored by Google?

If you visit our website, the fonts are loaded via a Google sever. Through this external request, data is transmitted to the Google server. This also allows Google to recognize that you and/or your IP address is visiting our website. The Google Fonts API was developed in order to reduce the collection, storage and usage of end user data to only what is necessary for the efficient delivery of fonts. API, by the way, stands for “application programming interface” and is used, amongst other purposes, as a data transmitter in the field of software. Google Fonts securely stores CSS and font requests with Google and is thus protected. Google can determine the popularity of the fonts through the collected usage figures. Google publishes the results on internal analysis pages, such as, for example, Google Analytics. In addition, Google also uses the data from its own web crawlers to determine what websites are using Google fonts. This data is published in the BigQuery database of Google Fonts. BigQuery is a web service of Google for companies that would like to move and analyze large quantities of data. However, it must also be taken into consideration that with every Google Font request, information such as the IP address, language settings, screen resolution of the browser, version of the browser and name of the browser are automatically transmitted to the Google server. It cannot be clearly determined whether this data is also stored and/or this has not been clearly communicated by Google.

How long and where is the data stored?

Google stores requests for CSS assets on its servers for one day and which are primarily located outside of the EU. This allows us to use the fonts with the help of a Google stylesheet. A stylesheet is a format template that can be used, for example, to easily and quickly change the design and/or font of a website. The font files are stored by Google for one year. In doing so, Google follows the goal of fundamentally improving the load time of websites. If millions of websites refer to the same fonts, these are stored in an interim manner after the first visit and then appear immediately on all other websites that are visited subsequently. Sometimes Google updates font files in order to reduce the file size, increase the coverage of languages and to improve the design.

How can I delete my data and/or prevent it from being stored?

The data that Google stores for a day and/or a year cannot simply be deleted. This data is transmitted to Google automatically when the page is requested.
